First: upload speed is the number businesses forget — VoIP calls, cloud backups, CCTV and video meetings all push data up, and it's upload that makes a cheap connection feel broken. Second: a video call uses roughly 3–4Mbps and a VoIP call barely 0.1Mbps, so raw download speed is rarely the real constraint — consistency is. We check the exact service at your postcode before recommending a package. If your line can only support FTTC (older copper), we tell you straight. Do I need a static IP address?
If you run CCTV you view remotely, a VPN for home workers, or host anything on-site, yes — a static IP makes those reliable. If you purely use cloud apps, you can live without one. We include a static IP where your setup needs it rather than selling it as a mystery extra.
What's the difference between SoGEA and FTTP?
FTTP is fibre all the way to your premises — the fast, future-proof option. SoGEA is broadband over the existing copper line without a phone service attached: a sensible interim where full fibre hasn't been built yet. If FTTP is available at your postcode, take it; if not, SoGEA keeps you properly connected with an easy upgrade path.
Why does our broadband slow down at certain times of day?
That's contention — shared connections carry many businesses and homes, so peak periods can dip. Good business-grade broadband keeps this modest; a dedicated leased line eliminates it entirely because the bandwidth is yours alone. If afternoon slowdowns are costing you, that's usually the signal to either move up a tier or price a leased line.
Can we switch without losing our phone number or email?
Yes. Phone numbers port across with no loss — customers dial exactly what they always have. Email only ties you to a provider if you're using their branded email address; if so, we'll help you move to proper business email on your own domain, which you should own anyway.
