Hikvision โ€” the professional's choice

Hikvision is the world's largest CCTV manufacturer and the system most trusted by professional installers. ColorVu cameras deliver full-colour footage at night without infrared, AcuSense uses AI to eliminate false motion alerts. Used by Telexico on all commercial installations.

Dahua โ€” strong alternative

Dahua offers comparable technology at competitive prices. Strong NVR software, good cloud integration and excellent IP67 weather-rated outdoor cameras. A solid choice for budget-conscious deployments.

IP cameras vs analogue

Analogue systems are obsolete. Modern IP cameras connect over your network, support remote viewing from anywhere, integrate with AI analytics and deliver far higher resolution. Always specify IP (also called ONVIF) cameras.

Resolution: what you actually need

4MP cameras are the current sweet spot โ€” sharp enough to identify faces and number plates without generating excessive storage requirements. 8MP (4K) is available for critical areas. 2MP is the minimum acceptable.

Storage: NVR vs cloud recording

NVR (Network Video Recorder) stores footage locally โ€” no ongoing cloud fees and footage is available even without internet. Cloud recording offers off-site backup and remote access. We typically recommend NVR with cloud backup for critical recordings.

How many cameras do you need?

One camera per 3-5 metre width of coverage for entry/exit monitoring. Car parks typically need one per 20-30 parking spaces. We survey every site before specifying โ€” there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

GDPR and business CCTV

You must display CCTV notices, have a legitimate reason for recording, and only retain footage for as long as necessary (typically 30 days). Staff in work areas must be informed. We provide full GDPR compliance documentation with every install.
